What do Oxford students want?

A recent survey of over 1,000 students shows that 58% use online sources to find accommodation.  The survey suggests that 58% use dedicated accommodation websites, while 44% go to their University accommodation office.

On average students are paying £43 a month more for their rent than they were 3 years ago with most now paying over £100 per week.

67% now have bills included in their standard rent.  64% regard the provision of double beds as important and, 40% will only consider renting a room with ensuite bathroom.

Unsurprisingly 85% will only consider a property that has effective and reliable broadband connection.

It seems to me that as the student accommodation provided by universities and specialist accommodation providers improves in quality, it is having a knock-on effect on the expectations of students when they seek private rented accommodation during the 2nd and 3rd years of their studies.  The Oxford private landlords who recognise this and invest accordingly int heir properties will ensure their properties continue to be in strong demand.

  1. This isn't an easy choice to make, so get advice from as many sources as possible. Family and friends who have been to university before are a good starting point.
